Intuitive Tip 4:  Calling a Truce

The concept

There's a war going on right now. No, not abroad in some far off country but right here inside your head! This war is based on a simple misunderstanding: You think that your body is not listening to you when you ask it to lose weight and your body thinks that you're not listening to it when it asks you to fulfill its needs. This is a dead end situation that turns you into a lifelong enemy of your own body!

I don't blame you, really. There are a lot of good reasons that started this war. Maybe you had no idea what your body was trying to say. You might also have tried to listen and the only thing that you gained was more weight. Or it might have been too discouraging when your body asked for something that you could not give it at the time (like a relaxing massage every week, expensive organic foods, etc.).

But if we're going to change all this and make some real progress, we need to establish a truce between you and your body.

The Intuitive Practice

We'll use visualizations in some of our exercises. Visualizations are used by professional athletes to create a reflex within their physical body for a perfect execution when it's time to compete for real. It's like rehearsing in your mind. By holding a mental image of the result they want to achieve, they are triggering physical reflexes within their body to accomplish their goal.

Visualizations on what you want to achieve about your body will trigger reflexes within your own mind to actually get the job done, even if you have no idea how it's getting done. Just like walking: we don't think of all the muscle contractions needed when we get up. We just have a reflex that takes care of the execution.

Visualization is a two way process: You send requests to your mind (through mental images) and your intuition sends you feedback (through emotions). So if you try to visualize something but you find it hard, this is direct feedback from your intuition telling you that something is not working right. Do not force it and check out the Quick Tips!

  1. Always start with a grounding exercise:
    • Use a grounding visualization: Visualization is a great way to ask your mind to do something. You just send it an image of what you want and let it take care of all the details. To visualize grounding, just close you eyes imagine that you are growing roots from the bottom of your feet. See the roots as reaching deeper into the earth until you feel connected to the ground.
    • Take three deep breaths: We tend to breathe in our upper chest, especially when we are stressed. A deep breath should fill up your upper chest and your belly. Taking several deep breaths pause the flow of your thoughts and makes it easier to hear your intuition.
    • Wash your hands: Throughout the day, you might be picking up energy from people or objects as you touch them. This foreign energy can create a sort of noise in your energy field and make you more distractible. Washing your hands is a signal to your unconscious mind to clear up energy that is not yours.
    • Hold a grounding crystal: Some crystals can help you stay grounded while you are holding them. Take a look at the "Choosing a Crystal" technique to learn how to select a crystal that can serve this purpose.
    • Physical Activity: Anything that brings your awareness to your body is inherently grounding. A brisk walk or run will help you focus what is going on within your body and clear your mind for intuitive insights. You can also just stretch your body or have fun with a few jumping jacks!
    • Eating: This is a delicious way to stay grounded as long as you pay attention to the food you are eating (remember, it's all about awareness!). Both eating and digesting have grounding effects, so you can enjoy the grounding benefits of this technique for a long time.
  2. Close your eyes and imagine that you are in a your favorite place...Maybe in a meadow, by the sea or sitting on a park bench.
  3. Imagine that someone is slowly walking towards you. S/he looks exactly like you because it's the part of you that represents your own physical body.
  4. Take a moment to welcome that part of you in your lovely setting. See her/him sitting or walking along with you.
  5. Even though you have both been hurt in the past, and have hurt the other as well, imagine that you are offering your hand in peace. S/he is also extending a hand and you agree to have a truce
  6. Take a moment to be aware of how that feels, to be at peace with your body, even if just during this program (for now!)
  7. Take a deep breath to reset your mind
  8. For the next 24 hours, redo this exercise whenever you feel very angry or frustrated with your body and weight, such as when seeing yourself in the mirror. This war has been going on for a while and it will take a few days for the truce to profoundly sink in.
Quick Tips
  • If you find that the person walking towards you looks different than you, that's fine. It might be distorted, beaten up, or visibly upset at you. This is direct feedback from your mind about how you truly feel about your own body. Just be aware of what this looks like.
  • If it does not feel good to shake hands or your body self is not wanting to do it, take a moment to ask:"What do you need me to do so we can have a truce?" Maybe you need your body self to apologize for making things so hard for you. Maybe your body self is too angry with you and it needs to calm down. Go with whatever pops into your mind. It IS relevant, even if it might not seem like it right now!
  • If you can't see this happening in your mind, do not force it. Leave this exercise alone for now and try it again later today or tomorrow. You might get some great insight as to what is truly going in the next few hours!
